It is with sincere regret that the AGA Board of Directors must announce that at an emergency meeting held Nov. 1 the Board of the AGA had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2019 AGA Conference on    Nov. 8th - 10th, 2019 at Northlands Park, Edmonton.

As in all agricultural sectors, the goat industry has been negatively affected by changes in agriculture and by the challenging weather across Alberta this past year. Many of our producers are suffering financially and are also still in the fields attempting to finish harvesting before winter sets in. This has reduced registration for this year’s event to levels we, as a non-profit organization, cannot afford to proceed with.

We do wish to thank the many supporters that stepped forward, particularly Northlands Farm Fair International along with those that were able to register for the conference. Please note that you will be contacted by the Conference committee regarding reimbursement as soon as possible.

As well  the AGM will be rescheduled, possibly to be held by teleconference, details will be announced in 'GoatDroppings as soon as possible.

Discussion has already begun of potentially re-organizing the conference as smaller regional events in the new year. Producer education is the most important goal of the AGA and we are all stronger when we have the tools to succeed. Keep watch on future issues of 'GoatKeeper' for information.

A heartfelt thank you to the devoted Conference committee, especially to Chair Melodi MacKinnon for her incredible work towards the organizing of the conference.  It was a difficult decision that had to be made, we deeply appreciate your incredible strength and dedication to the Alberta goat industry.

Two hotels have agreed to provide us with group rates for the convention:

1) Coliseum Inn, directly across from Northlands. I have to admit I was a little hesitant about approaching them, as this is an older hotel, however the top three floors have been newly renovated and that is where our rooms will be. I was impressed, and in fact this is where I will be booking my room.

2) Century Casino and Hotel. A newer venue with on site amusements for those who love some night life. And it's less than a 10min drive from Northlands.
